I BELIEVE THE BIBLE IS THE TRUE AND INFALLIBLE WORD OF GOD FROM GENESIS TO REVELATION. The reason I believe this: is because when after several weeks of attending a bible study group back in early 1970, my wife and I was asked a question by the leader of the group and pastor of the church we later began attending. It seemed to be a very unusual question to me at the time, because no one had ever asked me a question like that before. I must explain that before our involvement in this bible study group I think that we were both at the time on some sort of a spiritual quest. Our church backgrounds were really not grounded. We first got involved studying the bible with Jehovah's Witness and they could not give us the answers we were searching for, then we got involved with the Mormon church only to find out later that they believed that black people were a cursed race so that turned us away. My wife told me that she had occasionally attended the Nazarene church and I was from a Catholic background. We did attend a Nazarene church in which the people were very nice there, then on another sunday we attended a Catholic church, yet we both still felt a sense of despair. In the meantime a young couple with their two young children moved into the house across the street from us. After getting acquainted we learned that the wife's parents were pastors of a church and invited us to their home bible study group. Now the question posed to us was this: "Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son Of God, that he died on a cross for our sins and that he was raised from the dead on the third day" from all that we have studied these past weeks? Although the question sounded unusual to me, we both answered yes. The pastor then asked if we would like to accept Jesus into our hearts and be led through the sinners prayer by asking Jesus to come into our hearts, to forgive, to cleanse us from our sins and make him the Lord of our lives and we did. Speaking for myself after being led through this prayer and returning home that night I really didn't think anything of the matter because it seemed no different than the other bible study nights except for this particular evening that the pastor led us through this prayer. But the next day and days following I knew that my life was different, it was as though a great big weight was lifted off me. I could never make sense of the bible before, but now I not only had a hunger and thirst to read the bible, I could understand what I was reading.{ John 3:3 "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."} meaning you cannot comprehend or understand the Spiritual things of God. { Romans 8:7 "For the carnal mind is as an enemy against God, for it is not subject to the law of God, neither can be." } This weight that I felt lifted off me was that my sins were forgiven me.{ Romans 4:8 "Blessed is the man whom the Lord will not impute sin."} { John 8:32 "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."} {I John 5:10 "He that believes on the Son of God, has the witness in himself."} I felt clean and new. {II Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away ; behold, all things are become new."} {I John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.'} I felt a sense of peace I never had before. { John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let it be affraid."} I believe that if Jesus was walking among us to day that he would still be doing the same thing he was doing 2000 years ago, hanging out with down trodden the homeless, the drug addicts, alcoholics, prostitutes, sinners, healing the sick, raising the dead, casting out devils and setting those in bondage free. I believe that he would still be opposed by certain politicians and religous leaders here in this nation and around the entire world as he was 2000 years ago. No one knows when Jesus will return for his church, but one thing is certain; He is returning for those who have put their faith and trust in him as Lord and Saviour, and we must be ready as though he were returning today. Jesus said to his disciples: "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another." By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. { John 13:34-35 } Jerry Herrera |
